One thing women and we at CAPRICE certainly have in common: we love shoes! All shoe lovers who want to preserve the timeless beauty of their treasures for a long time should care for them regularly. To help you enjoy your favourite pairs for as long as possible, we would like to share some tips and tricks on how to care for your shoes.
Basic tips
Before wearing for the first time, spray leather and textile shoes three times in a row with a thin layer of protector from a distance of about 30 cm, allowing 15 minutes of drying time between each application.
Use a shoe tree for leather shoes – it significantly extends the lifespan of your favourite pair!
Store your shoes in a well‑ventilated, dry place and give them room to breathe.
Nappa and smooth leather
For caring for smooth‑leather shoes, you should use either a neutral or a coloured leather cream that matches the shoe colour. Apply the cream with a cloth, always from the heel towards the toe, so that the care can penetrate the leather optimally. If you have worn the shoes several times already, leave a shoe tree inside so the leather cream can also work into the flex lines.
After using care products, you should re‑apply a water‑ and stain‑repellent spray.
For nappa leather we recommend a wax‑based protector spray for the care of your shoes.
Our care tip:
If the smooth leather looks dull after impregnation, polish your shoes until they shine again!
Nubuck and suede (velour)
Before cleaning, always brush the leather with a shoe brush to loosen the fibre structure.
Then apply the nubuck care product locally by gently dabbing from the heel towards the toe, so the product can optimally penetrate the fibres and treat the shoe gently.
After the care product has dried, use the brush again to roughen the leather and restore the original fibre structure. If small stains appear in certain areas, you can easily remove them with a small brush.
Our care tip:
Never use a suede brush with brass bristles on light velour – the brass can cause the velour to turn green!
Deer leather
To care for shoes made of deer leather, you should use only colourless leather wax, as regular shoe polish can damage the open‑pored structure. Apply the wax sparingly with a soft cloth or sponge – ideally always from the heel towards the toe so it can be absorbed evenly.
If you wear the shoes regularly, we recommend using a shoe tree during care, so the product can also penetrate the flex lines and support the shape stability of the shoe.
After caring, you should treat your shoes with a suitable protector spray for delicate leathers to protect them from moisture and help extend the durability of the material.
Our care tip:
Avoid water and strong heat – always let wet shoes dry slowly at room temperature so the soft leather remains supple.
Textile
Before caring for textile shoes, remove coarse dirt with a shoe brush. In case of heavy soiling, we recommend using a damp cloth or sponge together with a cleaning foam, gently massaging the foam into the fabric. Then use a clean, damp cloth to remove any remaining foam and dirt.
Textile shoes should be regularly treated with protector spray to increase their lifespan and protect against wet feet. This also makes the long‑term care of textile shoes easier.

Nubuck care products can also be used to refresh the colour of dark textiles in the corresponding shade!
