Every foot is individual and needs a suitable shoe. When you order a new pair of shoes, it is often difficult to objectively assess whether the shoe fits as it should. Size and fit determine how happy you will be with your new shoes. To ensure you enjoy them for a long time after purchase, we would like to support you with the following tips for trying them on.  

Love at first step

The shoe in which you immediately feel comfortable has the potential to become your new favourite (pair of) shoes.  

Trying on at home

Please only test‑wear your shoes at home and preferably on carpet, and use a shoehorn to avoid damage. If you do not like the shoes or they do not fit and you would like to return them, they must be in perfect condition.  

The right time

The timing of trying on is also important, as your foot size varies depending on the time of day and how much strain your feet have been under. Choose a day when your feet have not been overly stressed. Our feet tend to swell slightly over the course of the day, so it is sensible to try shoes on in the afternoon or evening.  

The right sock

Wear the type of sock you plan to wear with these shoes in everyday life.  

Take your time

You should try the shoes both standing upright and while walking, so you can be sure they fit properly. Some of our shoes feature special insole technologies that influence the fit. Please read the notes under the section “Technologies” for more information.  

Try on both shoes

Feet differ in shape and size. That’s why we recommend always putting on the whole pair, not just one shoe.  

The right fit

For optimal wearing comfort, your feet should have enough room. This is the case when there is still 1–2 cm of space between your longest toe and the front of the shoe. The heel should not slip out of the heel counter yet should still have a firm hold. If you feel the shoe is only slightly too wide or too big, try our insoles or half insoles, which can help optimise the fit of your favourite pairs.  

Material characteristics

If you have chosen a leather article, please bear in mind that leather is a natural product and, due to its properties, is generally elastic. This means the upper material may widen over time. Minor colour variations may also occur with leather products.
